Title: Your Soma is Your Healer
Description: In this episode Seiji and his guest Aimee talk about the “Soma” which is a holistic view of the Self that Somatic Educators use in their practice. The Soma is the totality of an individual’s being which consists of their unique thoughts, feelings, emotions, knowledge and sensations, as experienced through their body. They explain how tapping into your own Soma can help you to heal the issues that you experience in your own body and how ignoring the Soma can cause pain, discomfort and even addiction, over time.
At the end there is a brief somatic instruction guided by Aimee that gives viewers some useful techniques on how to work with the Soma and how listening to the body’s feedback can reveal the way out of chronic pain and tension.
During these stressful times of the COVID 19 pandemic it is important to stay balanced, calm and focused; that is why we recommend using the techniques on this show so that we may all get through this crisis in the best way possible.
Aimee Takaya is a Hanna Somatic Educator in training as well as a Somatic Yoga Instructor. She grew up in Ashland Oregon, where she discovered the transformative effects of yoga at 19 years old. She followed her passions, teaching Yoga around the world for several years, but ended up with a hip injury and pain as a result of practicing Yoga intensely and pushing her body to its limits.
She discovered Somatics through her Father and began practicing the movements daily to reduce pain and regain mobility in her left hip. She has been teaching Somatic Movement for 3+ years now and incorporates somatic principles and functional movement patterns into her Yoga classes.
Aimee is smart, charming, knowledgeable and an all-round loving human being. She is a devoted mother and a highly competent instructor in Somatic Healing Arts.
It is recommended to be in a calm and quiet environment for doing somatics. Movements should be done gently without triggering unnecessary discomfort. Wear comfortable clothing. Drink plenty of water. Treat your body kindly.
