Guest Julie King
Mezzo-Soprano, singer-songwriter, and the founder of TRANS BREATH multi-disciplinary well-being program, Julie King is an Internationally acclaimed performer-composer and healer. Member of National Academy Recording Arts and Science,(Grammy) professional member of the International Breathwork Foundation, expert in conscious breathwork healing modalitites, sound and frequency-vibrational healing facilitator.
Julie achieved her popularity in the early 2000s by combining classical training with mainstream pop music, and has been credited with coining the musical genre term popra. She has debuted solo performances in over 100 venues including, Bonkok Lyric Opera, Opera America, NY, Royce Hall, RedCat Theater LA, and Coachella Music Festival. Her music has been played in over a 1000 radio stations across the world including KCRW, iHeart Radio, and has reached the top 50 Billboard Charts. Julie’s first hit was “Forgiveness”, a collaboration with Walter Affanasieff and Lindy Robbins. The song and video gathered over 2 million views, won 24 film festivals, and was selected for grammy nominations for best vocal performance and vocal arrangement for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards 2012.
Born in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in the former Soviet Union, Julie was trained as a violinists and a vocalist. As a teenager she moved to the United States and grew up in Santa Maria, California, and earned a master’s degree at the California Institute of the Arts before moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. Early career included vocal training with Paul Berkolds, Jaqueline Bobak, Maria Fortuna Dean and Russian opera singer Vladimir Chernov, and her composition teachers included Ann LaBeron, James Tinney, Wadada Leo Smith, Susie Allen, Bernardo Feldman and Daniel Catán. In Cal Arts, Julie was influenced by world music specially by professors Beatrice Lawluvi, Kobla Ladzekpo, and Swapan Chaudhuri.
In 2012 her career path shifted after she was invited to Singularity University, NASA, San Jose to conduct scientific experiments on the cognitive behavior of a listener during a live performance vs story telling song “Forgiveness”. As a healing with sound specialist and conscious breathwork facilitator Julie has taught workshops in Bali, Thailand, Russia, Turkey, Unites State, and Mexico, and has been recognized as one of the leading pop-opera female artist/composers of 21st century.
